So here's day 3. I know I'm really detailed as I type about everything that happened, but that's just the way I am. Love descriptions to the minor detail and I'm trying my hardest not to be so bad with it, so I apologize if I'm giving too much info. Well here it goes...
We woke up either 7 or 8 I don't remember, but I remember us thinking something would be wrong with the van. Either shit stolen, or a ticket for parking wrong on the street, but we were alright. We headed to a gas station and filled up for the long journey to Brooklyn, which wasn't too far actually. The drive was pretty quick and nothing really special or out of the ordinary happened on the way there. We arrived in Brooklyn, which was confusing as hell, but Kyle's GPS saved us from hours of confusion and we eventually arrived at the place. The door to get it had some weird lock, so I had to call Matt (the promoter) for it.
The Revenge dudes pulled up behind. Revenge and Turn It Up! were added last minute since Right Idea and Face Reality couldn't make it. Thanks to both bands for playing on such short notice. Anyway, we all entered the Stolen Sleeves collective. I loved the place a lot. It had a very punk, but artsy feel to it as the hallways were filled with graffiti and drawings. The place was like a series of apartments and we'd be playing in one of them. The dude(ette)s who lived there were very cool, though I don't think they really knew this show was happening. Not really sure what happened communication-wise between them and the promoter, but all went well. We left for a while to get food because Turn It Up!, Overload, and Mindset weren't there yet. Me and Mike ate at a vegan chinese restaurant about 10 minutes away called Wild Ginger, and I had the luxury of eating vegan General Tso's chicken for the 2nd time and it was delicious. Everyone else ate at a Subway across the street. Overload called and ate nearby as well, but we really hadn't met up.
Anyway, we headed back to the venue to be greeted by the Mindset dudes. Soon after that all the bands seemed to be there and we began to set up. The actual venue was an apartment that was built very oddly, but was cool nonetheless. You'd walk up stairs and there was a "hole" were you can see the downstairs room where everyone would play. Very tight and small, but a nice cool place to have shows.
Turn It Up! went on first. They were a pop punk-ish kind of band and they were pretty good and did an amazing cover of Fugazi's Waiting Room. Nicest guys ever, too. Then Revenge went on. The mic kept going in and out, but their set was awesome. Then Alert went on. We did pretty well I suppose, and there was some singing to the Youth Of Today covers we did. Then Overload went on and their set was great. Mindset went on last and they were great as always. The turnout wasn't so big altogether, but it was still a really good time. The show started a little before 4 and ended at 6:30ish maybe so we had more than enough time to get home at a reasonable time. Overload had about 9 hours to look forward to. We took some group pictures, said our goodbyes, and that ended the crucial Alert / Overload weekend 2009.
Overload are the nicest guys, great band, and I'm glad we had the opportunity to hang out/play shows with them.
That is all! Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed typing it all!
